Restricted work licence/permit (other than apprentice)
An electrical work training permit allows a person to undertake training and gain the experience necessary to meet the eligibility requirements for an electrical work licence.
Permit holders may be required to complete a structured, on-the-job training program coordinated by a supervising registered training organisation.
This is for a person who is seeking to obtain:
- a restricted electrical work licence (air-conditioning and refrigeration, instrumentation or electronics apprentices should use Form 10 - Application for electrical work licence (apprentice));
- additional units of competency on a current Queensland restricted electrical work licence;
- additional endorsements on a current Queensland restricted electrical work licence, or;
- an electrical work permit.
You need to complete the restricted work licence/permit (other than apprentice) (PDF, 149KB) if your trade or calling requires some limited incidental electrical work to be carried out.

Take care in completing the form. Read the guidelines and provide all the information required. Incomplete or incorrect applications may be considered withdrawn. The Department of Justice and Attorney-General will retain some of the application fee to offset administrative costs.
What you need to include
- If you have ever held a Queensland electrical work licence or electrical work training permit, provide the licence or permit number.
- If you have completed a training course with a supervising registered training organisation, provide your registration number.
- If you haven’t held a licence or permit, include proof of identity. Copies of documents such as birth certificate, passport, driver’s licence and Medicare card are useful, verified by a Justice of the Peace or similar. The application form provides details.
- If you hold electrical qualifications from another Australian state or territory or New Zealand, provide details of your licence, permit, certificate or other authority.
- Qualifications of your calling.
- Evidence of training or experience in doing the incidental electrical work. Course certificates, statements from your employer or a statutory declaration, if you’re self-employed, need to be supplied.
- Evidence that your trade or calling requires some electrical work to be done from time to time eg. letter from employer.
- Details of any relevant training courses you’ve completed with a supervising registered training organisation.
- Current resuscitation skills eg. certificate.
- Fee as listed on the application form: cheque or money order made payable to ‘The Department of Justice and Attorney-General'; credit card also available.
