9. Transitional provisions for electrical linespersons and electrical jointer

Apprenticeships for electrical linespersons and electrical jointers have been introduced progressively since 2001. Transitional provisions have been incorporated in the Electrical Safety Regulation 2002 (PDF, 1 MB) to ensure persons who gained their qualification other than through an apprenticeship are not disadvantaged by the introduction of new legislation.

Applicants with two years relevant Australian work experience are entitled to be issued with a new, renewed or reinstated licence if they complied with the qualification requirements under the Electricity Regulation 1994 prior to 1 October 2002.

From 1 July 2007, any applicant whose experience and qualifications were obtained overseas must satisfy the chief executive that the applicant is eligible for a licence under section 35 or 37 of the Electrical Safety Regulation 2002.

Standard to satisfy the chief executive

Refer to Attachment F for evidence of qualifications accepted by the chief executive.
