Definitions

For the purpose of this document, the following terms have the meanings as described:

Applicant

A person who is applying for a restricted electrical licence

Approved assessor

An organisation or person that assesses competencies of an applicant or trainee.

Licensing authority

The State or Territory authority responsible for issuing electrical licences ( Department of Justice and Attorney-General is the authority in Queensland).

On-the-job trainer

 

A person with the responsibility of supervising a trainee. The supervisor must have an electrical worker licence at least equivalent to the level of restricted electrical licence for which the trainee is undergoing training.

On-the-job training provider

The training provider that provides on-the-job training in NREL competencies. This will generally be the employer of the trainee.

RPL (recognition of prior learning)

A form of assessment used to determine if a person has, through informal and formal training and experience, achieved the required competencies for exemption from a recognised training program.

Trainee

An applicant who has approval to carry out training for a restricted electrical licence.

These definitions are provided to improve an understanding of the NREL system.
