Director-General

Rachel Hunter, Director-GeneralRachel Hunter commenced as Director-General of the Department of Justice and Attorney-General on 26 March 2009.

Ms Hunter is the Department’s chief executive, responsible to the Premier and the Attorney-General and Minister for Industrial Relations.

Prior to this appointment, Ms Hunter served as Director-General of the Department of Education, Training and the Arts from September 2006.

Ms Hunter previously held the position of Director-General of the Department of Justice and Attorney-General from 2003 to 2006, when she was appointed to undertake a review of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Throughout her 29-year career in the Queensland public service, Ms Hunter has played a pivotal role in leading reform in public service policy and institutions, as well as shaping the vocational, education and training system in this state.

In her role as Queensland's Public Service Commissioner from December 2000 until November 2003, Ms Hunter led the development of a highly professional public service in the areas of organisational and executive capability and performance, public service reform and governance.

Ms Hunter has extensive experience in the vocational, education and training sector, initially as a teacher and then in a variety of management roles.

Most notably, she was the Director of the Southbank Institute of TAFE and concurrently, Chair of TAFE Queensland.

Barry Leahy, Deputy Director-GeneralDeputy Director-General

Barry Leahy was appointed as Deputy Director-General in February 2005. He was previously CEO of Comcare, the organisation responsible for workplace safety, rehabilitation and compensation in the Commonwealth jurisdiction. Barry has worked in the Australian public service for some 30 years and held senior positions in industrial relations, occupational health and safety and workers compensation.

Commissioner for Electrical Safety

The Commissioner advises the Minister for Industrial Relations on electrical safety matters and proposes codes of practice to manage electrical risks. Other functions of the office include chairing and managing the activities of the Electrical Safety Board and the Board's committees, which are specifically concerned with licensing and disciplinary matters, electrical safety promotion and standards for electrical equipment.

In October 2002, the Governor in Council appointed Mr Jack Camp as the Commissioner for Electrical Safety for a period of five years. Jack Camp is a qualified electrical fitter mechanic, has many years of experience in the electrical industry and has served on several key electricity related boards. He was previously chair of the Electrical Workers and Contractors Board and a member of the Electrical Approval and Energy Labelling Advisory Committee.
